China refuses to compensate Tibetans displaced by the largest hydro-solar plant in the world.

Two billion kilowatt-hours may be produced annually by the Kela Mega Hydro-Photovoltaic Complementary Power Station, which can also completely charge 15,000 electric cars with a 550-kilometer (340-mile) range in only one hour.
citizens who live close to the project informed Radio Free Asia (RFA) that the Chinese government has refused to compensate citizens, particularly Tibetan nomads, who have been harmed by the building of the biggest hydro-solar plant in the world.
In addition to publishing internet news, Radio Free Asia is a privately owned, non-profit news organization that receives funding from the US government.

The Kela Mega Hydro-Photovoltaic Complementary Power Station started full operation on Sunday, according to Chinese official media. A hydroelectric component of the vast solar farm, which spans 16 million square meters, or more than 2,000 soccer fields, helps regulate the energy supply in response to changing weather conditions.

It can produce two billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and can completely charge 15,000 electric cars with a 550-kilometer (340-mile) range in only one hour.

A Tibetan villager who lives close to Kela told RFA that nomadic Tibetans who used to graze their livestock in the region that is now covered in a sea of solar panels were driven out and given nothing in exchange.

The homeowner mentioned a another hydropower project and added, “The Chinese government has started operating the largest solar power station along with the hydropower dams in Nyakchu county in Kardze [in Chinese, Ganzi] beginning June 24.”
According to RFA, he said that the Chinese government had expelled the local Tibetans in these areas in a land-grab in order to develop and enable these power plants and had not yet provided them with compensation.

The local claimed that the project’s displaced Tibetans were never told before it began.

One other Tibetan resident said that the nomads had unsuccessfully complained to the Chinese authorities.

The local Tibetans begged the Chinese government to halt these initiatives in April of this year. except it is quite evident that there can be no resistance to eviction and relocation, and that local Tibetans have no alternative except to abide by official directives,” he told RFA.
