Saola, a typhoon with high gusts and heavy rain, is forecast to make landfall in southern China and Hong Kong.
Heavy rain and high gusts from Typhoon Saola started to hit the southern point of Taiwan on Wednesday, August 30. This caused some traffic delays. However, Reuters noted that it is not anticipated to make a direct touchdown on the island.
Ferry services and flights to numerous outlying islands and the south-eastern city of Taitung were canceled as a result of the storm warnings issued by Taiwan for both land and water.
Pingtung county, located in the far south, is predicted to get the most rainfall. Some municipalities in these regions and along Taiwan’s eastern coast have halted school and work as a precaution.
